A gorgeous chased locket dating to the Victorian era. Anchors were commonly used as a symbol of hope, stability and stength.

 

Combine the anchor with the glass compartment to the reverse, which will have held a photo or a lock of hair, I believe that this will have been a parting gift or mourning piece.
