The very first pocket watches, since their creation in the 16th century, up until the late 19th century, had key wind and key set movements. A watch key was necessary to wind the watch and to set the time.
This lovely little key would have been an essential tool for the wearer.
This one can be worn using the bale that has been attached, but I prefer a chain slid directly through the swivel handle.
